About Kumo

Kumo is an independent, free, and non-commercial educational resource. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).

Examination materials made available through Kumo originate from publicly released NZQA examination resources or historical copies of those resources. Kumo does not claim ownership of NZQA examination material or third-party material incorporated into examination resources.

Copyright and attribution

The materials are provided to assist students with research, revision, and private study. Kumo relies on applicable rights and exceptions under New Zealand copyright law where appropriate and does not represent that it owns or has separately licensed all copyright contained in the examination materials.

Reporting copyright infringement

If you are a copyright owner or authorised representative and believe material available through Kumo infringes your copyright rights, we welcome notice of the claim. To report copyright infringement, please provide the following information:

  • Your name and contact details: Your full name, email address, and phone number (if applicable).
  • Copyright ownership: A clear statement of your copyright interest in the work, including evidence of your right to represent the copyright owner (if applicable).
  • Material identification: Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed, including the title, author, and any relevant publication details.
  • Kumo location: The specific URL on Kumo where the infringing material appears, or a clear description of how to locate it.
  • Infringement basis: A clear statement of why you believe the material on Kumo infringes your copyright, including the nature of the infringing use (reproduction, communication to the public, etc.).
  • Requested action: What resolution you seek (removal of the material, modification, or other action).
  • Good faith statement: A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner or the law.

Submitting a notice

Please use "Copyright Notice" as the subject line. We will acknowledge receipt of your notice promptly.

Our response

Upon receipt of a bona fide copyright infringement notice, Kumo will:

  • Review the notice to assess the validity of the copyright claim and Kumo's use of the material.
  • If the claim is valid and Kumo's use is not permitted by applicable copyright law, take appropriate action to remedy the infringement, which may include removal of the material, modification of access, or other measures as warranted.
  • Notify you of the action taken within a reasonable timeframe.

Disputes and appeals

If material is removed or modified in response to a copyright notice, and you believe the removal or modification was in error, you may contact us to dispute the action. Disputes will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Takedown by NZQA

NZQA has the authority to request removal of material as the source provider of examination content. Any notice from NZQA or its authorised representatives will be treated as a priority and actioned promptly.
