Terms of Service

By using Kumo, you agree to the terms below. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

What Kumo is

Kumo is a self-hosted, independently run archive of publicly available NZQA exam papers and related study material, provided free of charge on a best-effort basis.

Acceptable use

  • Use the service for personal study and reference purposes only.
  • Don't attempt to disrupt, overload, or circumvent the service's rate limits or access controls.
  • Don't upload content you don't have the right to share, or content that infringes on someone else's copyright.

Scraping, bulk downloads, and abuse

Kumo doesn't have user accounts, so there's nothing to log into and nothing tied to an identity. That also means abuse protections apply to everyone equally, by IP and request pattern rather than by account.

  • Don't use automated scraping, crawling, or bulk-download tools to mirror or download the archive in bulk. Browsing and downloading individual papers for your own study is fine; pulling the whole archive programmatically isn't.
  • Requests that look automated, abusive, or designed to strain the service may be rate-limited or blocked without notice.
  • If you have a legitimate reason to want bulk access (research, archival, etc.), contact the site owner first rather than scraping around it.

No warranty

Kumo is provided "as is", with no guarantee of uptime, accuracy, or availability. This is a small, independently maintained project, not a commercial service backed by an SLA. We aim to keep things running and up to date, but content or access may change without notice.

Content ownership

Exam papers and related material remain the property of their respective rights holders (including NZQA). Kumo does not claim ownership over this material and operates on a good-faith, non-commercial basis consistent with the fair dealing provisions of the Copyright Act 1994 (NZ). If you are a rights holder and want material removed, contact the site owner and it will be actioned promptly.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, including the Copyright Act 1994, the Privacy Act 2020, and the Harmful Digital Communications Act 2015. Nothing here limits any rights you have under those Acts.

Questions about these terms can be directed to the site owner.
